Easy tips for making your home look like new!

The New Year offers a great opportunity to freshen things up around your home. As you take down your holiday decorations and tidy up your space indoors, also take some time to assess what needs to be done outside. Although the weather is chilly in the early morning hours and late at night, sunny afternoons are the perfect time to get outdoors and get some work done. Here are some things you can do to make your home look “new” again in the New Year.

Powerwash

One of the best things you can do to maintain your home is to keep it clean. Powerwashing can make dirty areas look brand new, especially if you haven’t done it before. Be sure to clean the entryway, siding, driveway, deck, and any concrete areas around your home. With a clean palate, you will immediately feel better about your space.

Clean gutters

During the fall months, many things collect in your gutters. From leaves to acorns and other debris, gutters can get backed up and block water from flowing. Although it may not seem like a big deal at first glance, it can cause major issues in your home. Aside from leaks and water damage, clogged cutters can also look unsightly. Clear your gutters to protect your home and sharpen your roof-line for better curb appeal.

Paint shutters or doors

Once the outside of your home is clean and the gutters have been cleared, it’s a good idea to see what paint needs touching up. Painting your shutters is a manageable weekend project to tackle at this time of year. It might even be a nice idea to change the color of your shutters to make them stand out. Since your front door may also need some attention, you could easily coordinate the color to match your shutters. A new coat of paint can make a big difference in the overall look of your home.

Trim the bushes

Landscaping has a big impact on curb appeal. Consider removing dead bushes or diseased portions of the bushes to give them the best chance of survival. Trim back overgrown branches on the outside of the bushes until the plants take on a more appealing look. Be sure to leave enough main branches to keep from doing harm. Trimming will help allow sunlight to reach the inside and encourage new growth. Healthy green shrubs and bushes add beauty and privacy to your yard.

The start of the New Year is a great time to make your home feel “new” again. Make a list of what you’d like to accomplish and set aside the time to do it. By addressing some smaller projects now, you can free up some time in the upcoming months for bigger jobs.
